Hollow metal security doors shall be approximately 2" thick to receive prison locks. Edges at top and sides shall finish flush. Doors shall not have more than 1/8" clearance at sides and top, and shall have proper bevel to prevent binding.
Doors shall have face sheets of ASTM A1011 hot rolled steel (12 gauge for maximum security or 14 gauge for medium security), reinforced with formed 1/8" steel channels extending full height of door. Reinforcing channels shall be spaced approximately 4" o.c. and spot welded to face sheets at 3" o.c. Faces of doors to be flat with no joints, weld marks or bumps.
Provide 1/8" channel bending around complete door perimeter, welded to face at 3" o.c. Outer edges of face sheets shall be returned at the edges to a close fit and continuously welded and ground smooth.
Mouldings securing vision panels shall be formed shapes, 10 or 12 gauge steel. Moulding shall be fixed on one side and removable with security-type screws on the other.
Suitable provisions shall be made to receive glass panels, louvers, food passes, speaking ports and shutters.
The mortise butt reinforcing channel shall receive an additional back-up reinforcement of 7 gauge steel, welded in place, drilled and tapped to receive screws.
Surface applied grip pulls shall be reinforced with 3/8" plate; reinforced with 1/4" plate at surface hinges.
Sound deadening material shall be nominal 6 lbs. density mineral composition, incombustible, moisture resistant, chemically inert and shall fill all voids between stiffeners and face sheets.
All surfaces are to be thoroughly cleaned of all oil, grease and other impurities and them chemically etched. All irregularities shall be filled and sanded to give a completely smooth surface. Apply on (1) coat of rust inhibitive primer baked on to a minimum of one (1) mil dry thickness.
