Choosing the right commercial doors can be more complicated than it sounds. To help you, we have listed 5 things that you should consider while choosing the right commercial door for your business.
1. Understand the Different Types of Doors
You should understand that when it comes to choosing commercial doors there are many different types of doors. Each of type is unique in their own right. Of course, once you determine which type of door you need, you will go on to choose style, size, and more.
2. How Will the Door Be Used?
Be sure to consider things like lobby entrances or storefronts, and whether or not the door needs to be appealing to the people walking through it. Is the commercial door going to be a customer entry point or will it just be used somewhere to separate stair levels? All of these questions will weigh heavily in the decision-making process and could also make a difference in the door materials.
3. Door Materials
Aluminum is common but is not always the best solution. If you need a truly durable and strong door, consider hollow metal. Hollow metal is one of the toughest door materials on the market. It’s easy to work with and hard to compromise, yet it tends to be quite a bit more expensive.
4. Continued Maintenance
If there’s one thing that is true of all doors… they require routine maintenance to work and perform properly. The better the material, the simpler the maintenance will be. Maintenance is typically related to wear and tear, so keep this in mind as you look for a commercial door.
5. Budget
Your budget is perhaps one of the more important things to consider when choosing the right commercial door. Commercial doors can quickly become a costly endeavor, particularly if you require a specialty door, like glass doors, storefront doors, automatic doors, and fireproof doors. Remember that there are so many options out there and it’s easy to overspend if you don’t set a budget!

WOOD DOORS
Wood doors are durable enough to withstand frequent usage while retaining their attractive appearance for high-traffic installations in any kind of commercial building setting. Doors will be prepped for one of two different locksets, 161 cylindrical locksets or 86 mortise locksets.
Modern wood doors are virtually maintenance free with finishes that are unaffected by humidity, splitting, peeling or deterioration the way that unfinished wood is. They are even resistant to stains and scratches, and won't twist or warp in the frame. You can even get pre-primed paintable door surfaces that can be painted to match walls, color trends, safety considerations or personalization choices.
One of their hallmarks is sound deadening properties, with the commercial flush wood door's ability to muffle sounds. That is one of the more important factors towards their installation in office buildings, apartments and other public building structures. In any sound sensitive environment, commercial flush wood doors allow residents or office employees to have a peaceful environment where neighbors, either next door or down the hall, won't disturb one another.
Core choices allow you to customize your commercial flush wood door and tailor it to your needs. An acoustic core keeps out noise. A fire rated core gives high fire rating protection. An agrifiber "Green" core is made up of agricultural waste products; a particleboard core will reduce costs, and several other core types are available that will suit virtually all builders needs.
Hollow Metal Doors:
One of the major advantages to using hollow metal doors is their ultimate design flexibility. Because they are relatively easy to make, they are very cost-effective for places that need a high number of doors to be installed. Plus, they can be tailor-made for the specific use within the building they are being installed into.
Hollow metal doors have superior absorbent qualities when impacted by force. Not only do they repel damage themselves, they also disperse the force involved, which protects the surrounding framework. Where a solid metal door might crack or break, or worse, transfer a damaging impact to the surrounding structure, a hollow metal door will absorb any impact and keep it contained within itself.
Hollow Metal Doors are made of channel reinforced steel sheets and filled with insulation materials. These doors can come with different types of internal cores: including Honeycomb, Polystyrene, Polyurethane, Steel-Stiffened, and Temperature Rise Cores.
Metal doors are more sanitary, much easier to maintain, and can withstand more abuse than wood or aluminum doors. A result of the strength and durability of steel is that metal doors have the lowest total cost of ownership of any other materials.
Doors can be provided in 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 gauge to fit your specific needs, and all doors come in 1 ¾ inch standardized thickness (1 3/8" available upon request only).
FIRE RATED:
In accordance to temperature rise standards, the unexposed door surface can only reach a maximum temperature of 250°F during the initial 30 minutes of a fire and 450°F after 60 minutes.
Standard fire rated metal doors are 1 ¾” thick and are available in 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 gauge galvannealed steel. Fire rated door faces are typically flush and free of any joints, welds or seams. Door edges are typically beveled 1/8” (3 mm) in 2” (50 mm).
